Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce events for the rest of 2016

As we head into the final furlong of 2016, Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce has a busy programme of events coming up and will be supporting its retailer members in the launch of their Christmas shopping season.

We start October with the launch of the second annual Cranleigh & District Business, Innovation & Growth (BIG) Awards.

Our press launch at Cranleigh Arts Centre on 3rd October is a preview of the upcoming awards which take place in the New Year.

We will be inviting entries from members and non-members across the district, showcasing the fantastic range of innovative businesses in our local area.

Our next breakfast meeting is on 12th October and takes us to Wildwood Golf & Country Club. Our speaker is Christine Martin, managing director of Travel Retail Training.

Christine will be sharing the secrets of winning prestigious awards for your business and how these can help you raise your profile, win new customers and grow revenues.

For our breakfast meeting on 16th November, our guest speaker is chartered financial planner Martin Bamford.

Martin will be describing the demographic destiny we all face in life and business, how we can live well in retirement, and what the future might look like for an ageing society.

Fittingly for this subject, the breakfast will be hosted at Rowleys Centre for the Community, a venue which offers adult day care in Cranleigh.

Christmas is an important time of the year for our retailer members and the Cranleigh Christmas Lights Switch-On is our flagship public event.

Taking place this year on Saturday 19th November, Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce is organising a family day of entertainment, live music and late-night shopping.

With business membership of Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce now more than doubled in eighteen months, we look forward to good attendance at all of these events, as we continue to be a positive voice to attract, retain and encourage growing businesses.

Sponsorship opportunity for Cranleigh Rotary Race Night

Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce members are invited to sponsor a race at the Cranleigh Rotary Race Night next month.

The Rotary Club of Cranleigh are hosting their race night in the Village Hall on Friday 21st October at 7pm.

The event is in support of the Virtual Doctors Group which works in 20 rural health centres and two district hospitals in rural Zambia, and also local charities.

The evening will comprise eight races, each consisting of eight horses, with 50% of the betting revenue reverting to winning punters, the remainder going to Rotary charities.

Rotary is hoping to increase this net revenue for our charities through sponsorship not only of all races but also of as many individual horses as possible.

The name of each sponsoring company (or individual) together with their motif/logo will be printed on the Race Cards given to all punters on the night, thus enhancing the visibility, and generosity, of the company/individual in the local community.

Individuals who sponsor a horse will also have the option of naming that horse (being as polite as reasonably possible, please, so as not to upset any sensitive punters!)

Race sponsorship is £25 and horse sponsorship is £5.

These are suggested minimum sponsorship amounts and you are of course able to donate more.

For more information and to sponsor a race or horse, please contact Rotarian Mike Ellis by email to Mike@Charters.eu.com or telephone 01483 271314.

Beer, cheese & business networking

40 members of Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce made the trip over the border (into West Sussex!) on Wednesday for an evening of beer, cheese and business networking.

Our venue for the September networking meeting was Rudgwick Brickworks, home of Bookham Harrison Farms and Firebird Brewing Co.

Some intrepid Chamber members cycled along the Downs Link to arrive at the event just in time to hear from Tim Harrison and Rob Bookham, founders of Bookham Harrison Farms.

Tim and Rob gave an informative talk about the development of The Brickworks and the creation of Sussex Charmer, a unique cheese that is a cross between a Traditional Mature Farmhouse Cheese and a Parmesan.

Sussex Charmer is produced exclusively with milk from their own herd of dairy cows from Pallinghurst Farm in Rudgwick, West Sussex.

Chamber members then moved into neighbouring Firebird Brewing Co. to the indoor beer garden to enjoy the range of beers they produce.

Firebird founder Richard Peters took guests on a fascinating tour of the micro-brewery, explaining how their beers are brewed and giving a history of beer making.

Our next networking meeting is a breakfast at Wildwood Golf & Country Club on Wednesday 12th October.

Our speaker for the next meeting is Christine Martin, managing director of Travel Retail Training.

Christine will be sharing the secrets of winning prestigious awards for your business and how these can help you raise your profile, win new customers and grow revenues.
