Finalists announced for Waverley BIG Awards 2018

The local business community in Waverley has really proved that the borough is ‘open for business’ with an incredible 70 entries in the inaugural year of the Waverley Business, Innovation and Growth awards!

The BIG Awards have attracted the finest calibre of entrants across many sectors, rural and urban, small and large, younger companies and from long established businesses.

The four Chambers of Commerce from Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere have been working together as Waverley Joint Chambers of Commerce in partnership with Waverley Borough Council to develop the Awards.

Our aim is to encourage businesses to locate here, to retain local companies and help them grow, to promote Waverley as a ‘the’ place to do business south of London and to market the many skilled employment opportunities on our residents’ doorsteps.

Designed ‘by local businesses, for local businesses’ the Awards recognise, promote and celebrate the achievements of the innovative and entrepreneurial business community in Waverley.

Waverley Borough Council’s Economic Portfolio Holder, Cllr Jim Edwards, said:

Waverley Borough Council is delighted to be principal sponsor for the first ever Waverley BIG awards. Local businesses play a key part in our community, supporting the local economy, providing jobs and adding to the attractiveness of the borough.

There are four Chamber President’s Awards for Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere which were open to all businesses, not just Chambers members.

In addition, awards for Customer Delight, Innovation, Staff Engagement and Community Partnerships make up the suite of eight awards.

The Waverley BIG Awards 2018 are also generously sponsored by Dunsfold Park, Edwards Greene Accountants, Downs Solicitors, Blink, Taybridge Consulting, SI Capital, Cornmeter, Blue Dot Display, PAAC IT, Marley Flowers, The Remarkable Studio, Angus Lyon Action Coach, Lythe Hill Hotel, Surrey County Council, Farnham and Haslemere Town Councils.

The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony on Friday 19th October, at Lythe Hill Hotel, Haslemere attended by 200 sponsors, finalists and guests.

Reducing plastic use in Cranleigh

Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce is pleased to support a new initiative by Waverley Borough Council, aimed at reducing the amount of single use plastic in our community.

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to refill water bottles, with friendly cafes, shops, hotels and other premises providing free refill points.

Participating businesses will display a sticker in their window and have their businesses details included on the ‘Refill’ app, advertising to passers-by that they can come on in and fill up their water bottle for free.

More information on the Refill app can be found here: https://www.refill.org.uk/

Well over 10,000 businesses across the country have already signed up to this scheme and we are encouraging Cranleigh businesses to take part too.

Please get in touch to hello@cranleighbiz.co.uk if you would like to participate in this scheme and we can introduce you to the relevant contact at Waverley.
